The JRS Eco 100 WiFi Extender / Repeater
You probably know them—those handy little devices that plug into an outlet to extend your home’s WiFi range: WiFi repeaters, also known as WiFi boosters or extenders.
However, there’s a major drawback to these ordinary WiFi extenders. They emit just as much radiation as a regular WiFi router or modem. It’s easy to see with an EMF meter: 10 beacon signals per second, 24 hours a day. They maintain constant contact with the main WiFi router or modem, which means increased radiation exposure. On top of that, WiFi repeaters are often placed on the first floor, near the bedroom. (In that case, we definitely recommend unplugging it at night.)
We regularly received questions from customers asking whether a JRS Eco 100 router could also be used as a WiFi repeater. Until now, we didn’t have that functionality, so our advice for minimizing EMF exposure was to run an Ethernet cable to the spot where you want to improve coverage, and set up a second JRS Eco 100 router there.
But now we have a new answer: the JRS Eco 100 WiFi repeater mode, available on the Era and Eos models.
With this, JRS Eco Wireless has achieved a world first: the first WiFi repeater that emits radically less radiation—a measurable 87% fewer beacon pulses during use, and it’s completely radiation-free when no devices are requesting WiFi. Fully compatible with Full Eco standby mode: If you pair it with a JRS Eco 100 router as your main router, the main Eco 100 router also turns off its WiFi after the repeater has shut down its WiFi.
It works like a relay run. Imagine your phone is connected to a JRS router in Eco 100 Extender mode, and the JRS Eco 100 Extender is connected to the main JRS Eco 100 router. If you turn off WiFi on your phone, the WiFi on the JRS repeater will turn off, and then the WiFi on the main JRS router will turn off. That way, the entire system becomes radiation-free.
We’re adding the JRS Eco 100 Extender Mode via an update to all current JRS Eco 100 Era and Eos models. Starting with firmware version 2.11, you can configure them to function as an Eco 100 Extender.
The airwaves are becoming increasingly crowded, and it’s all too easy to plug in a WiFi booster. The problem with that, though, is that we’re all making the problem worse. When you plug in a booster, it degrades your neighbors’ signal. Then, if they plug in a booster, this in turn degrades your signal. And so it goes on. The boosters interfere with each other and broadcast all day long. How much better it would be if repeaters only transmitted a signal when necessary—that is, when you connect a phone or other Wi-Fi device to them—and then turned off again when you no longer need Wi-Fi.
